Stephen F. Buterin
Steve is a litigation and appellate attorney with Minneapolis law firm Fisher, Bren, & Sheridan, LLP. He handles a variety of cases, including construction law, business litigation, insurance coverage, and appeals, as well as regularly appears before the state and federal district courts in Minnesota and Wisconsin, the Minnesota Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Steve currently serves on the Minnesota Supreme Court Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Appellate Procedure, and is a former member of the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society. He is also the former chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Section. Steve often speaks at appellate continuing legal education classes, sharing his insight and experience on legal writing, appellate procedure and jurisdiction, and ways to preserve and perfect the record and issues to allow for more favorable outcomes on appeal.
Before entering private practice, Steve clerked for the Honorable R.A. (Jim) Randall of the Minnesota Court of Appeals. He was also an attorney-instructor for Civil Rights Moot Court program at the University of Minnesota Law School, where the competition teams he coached won the prestigious William E. McGee National Civil Rights Moot Court Competition and received numerous honors and awards.
